Officers of the Madras Army 1760-1834
An extremely rare 1838 book published by Messrs Dodwell and Miles of the Court of General Agency of the East India Company, equivalent of what today would be the 'Pensions Department'. With ready access to personnel records of the officers based in Madras, the publishers have provided a wealth of information, typically including the year of enrolment of each officer as a cadet, the date of each promotion in rank, and of retirement, resignation or death, whether in India or in Europe. Nearly five thousand officers are listed. The original work was indexed only on the initial letter of each officer's surname and year of commission. The CD-ROM is supplemented by a new index which is wholly alphabetic, greatly assisting those seeking information on specific ancestors.
